Group condemns kidnappings, urges support for IGP Arase

FREE Society Nigeria, a Non-Governmental Organisation, NGO, committed to anti-crime and police support initiatives has condemned the criminal activities of some gangs that recently kidnapped former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae and wife of the Deputy Managing Director of The Sun Newspapers, Mrs Toyin Nwosu.
The body, in a statement signed by its Media and Public Affairs Director, Mr Demola Williams said it is sure that “with the current policing strategies being deployed by the Inspector General of Police Solomon Arase, the nation will soon overcome the challenge of kidnapping just as it is surmounting the terrorism scourge at the moment.
“We particularly wish to condemn attempts by some persons and groups to put the blame of the incident in Akure on the IGP. We daresay this because, from our enquiries with the police authorities, Arase never supported nor paid any ransom and was not aware that any ransom was paid to the kidnappers of Falae. We found out that the IGP relocated to Ondo state with his team to track down Falae’s abductors as his responsibility demands and in obedience to the directive of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“For us, the IGP’s decision to distance himself from the notion of paying any ransom is totally logical and in order. This is because, any public acknowledgement of the payment of ransom to criminal gangs will not curb such criminal venture but will rather encourage others to go into it.
“What our nation needs at this critical time in our history is to be our brother’s keeper and support all our law enforcement agencies so that we can all live in a free society. Any attempt to shift focus from this goal to blame game and ‘pull him down syndrome’ can only be to the benefit of criminal gangs.
“Our engagements with the police authorities show that IGP Arase is on top of the job and will need our support to achieve great feats with on-going efforts. This is why we commend him for always being on his toes and equally challenge him never to slow down or rest on his current efforts to rid our society of criminal elements.

We celebrate Independence Day on 15th of August with great enthusiasm every year. On this day we attained freedom from British rule after putting a great struggle. Indian independence is the result of the sacrifices made by hundreds of people from all corners of the country.  It is the day to be proud of our heroes like Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, Bhagat Singh, Chandra Shekhar Azad and many more, whose life and idols remain the guiding light for all Indians even today. On 69th Independence Day, we still find the endless problems of poverty and corruption surrounding our country. The spark of nationalism again needs to be rekindled, and the future generation needs to be made aware of its duties, which will put our country in the path of true success. - See more at: http://independencedayindia.net.in/2015/independence-day-essay-and-short-notes-for-students-kids-in-english.html#sthash.uywxIKnH.dpu

PDP senators kick as Buhari fails to submit list of ministers

ABUJA–PRESIDENT Muhammed Buhari failed to meet up with his earlier promise of submitting list of nominees to the Senate before the end of September. The president had assured that the list containing the nominees into ministerial offices would be submitted to the Red Chamber latest by September 30,for onward screening and possible confirmation.
But the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, who announces correspondences from the president at the beginning of plenary, before the consideration of any other items in the day’s business, could not announce any letter from the President during Tuesday’s session, indicating that there was no such list at his disposal.
The development prompted the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP senators, through the Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, to seek clarification. Akpabio, PDP, Akwa Ibom North West, raised a point of order, under matter of urgent importance, to find out why the Senate President had not announced the president’s letter containing ministerial nominees.
Akpabio, who noted that the nation’s newspapers in the last couple of weeks, have been awashed with stories of ministerial appointments by the president, asked the Senate President why he received the list from President Buhari and was hiding it from his colleagues.
As Saraki attempted to answer Akpabio’s question, Deputy Senate Leader, Ibn Bala Na’Allah, APC, Kebbi South, raised another point of order, where he explained that the day was still young, saying since the day’s session ends by 12:30pm, there was still the hope that the president would transmit the list of ministerial nominees to the Upper Chamber before the close of the session.
He also said since the day ends by 12 midnight, there was still hope that the list could come before the time. But the Senate President, who was thrown the question, could not provide answer, as he over-ruled Senator Akpabio, asking that the next item in the day’s agenda be introduced.

empire-season-2-teaser-590x900
Three months after his arrest, Lucious tries to run Empire Entertainment while in federal lockup; Cookie stages a star-studded concert in support of Lucious while Andre, Hakeem, Anika and Mimi Whiteman (Marisa Tomei) attempt a hostile takeover.
After a year of waiting, we finally have a new premiere episode for Empire, and by was the wait worth it. When we lat left Cookie and Lucious, one of them was going to jail and the other was trying to determine what the next move for the empire was. It was a perfect script flip from what happened at the beginning of the series with Cookie getting out of prison and Lucious determining the next move for his music empire.
But now it’s Lucious in prison and Cookie on the loose — and everything we saw in the season premiere of Empire suggests we’re going to be in for a a thrilling season. We had a murder plot, a failed hit on Lucious and a few major power plays that involved the flipping of a few scripts on a couple of characters who didn’t see it coming.
